Career Profiles: Medical Librarian
What do they do?
- Work
in hospitals, medical schools, universities
and professional schools, consumer health
libraries, research centers, government
agencies.
- Provide
health information about new medical
treatments, clinical trials and standard
trials procedures, tests and equipment
to health professionals, patients, consumers
and corporations.
- Select
and acquire books, journals and other
library resources.
- Establish
electronic and digital database information
systems.
- Organize
information into collections and develop
catalogs for access and provide reference
assistance.
- Coordinate
and control budgets and supervise library
technicians.

school courses in information management,
science, math and English.
- Undergraduate
degree in one of the life sciences is
helpful.
- Masters
degree in library science from a program
accredited by the American Library Association.
- Graduate
courses in medical informatics or medical
librarianship are helpful.
