Every day, volunteers take time from their work, their leisure, and home life to volunteer their talents and energies to Providence - and our volunteers make a difference! Whether working directly with patients or working behind the scenes, our volunteers enhance the high standards of health care that we strive to provide.

Providence volunteers are young, old and every age in between. They are men and women who come from every economic group, from every race, religion, and life style. They share in common their dedication and commitment to being part of the Providence team. And being part of the Providence team means CARING!

Why Volunteer?
Volunteering at Providence is rewarding! As a volunteer, you will receive a healthy return on your investment. Unlimited potential exists throughout the Providence system. Meeting new people, developing new skills and facing exciting challenges are just part of what volunteerism is all about.

What Will I Do?
Volunteers serve Providence in many areas, and the openings vary from day to day. Matching skills, talents, and interests with these openings is of primary importance. This is accomplished during the application and interview process.

Assignments are available weekdays, evenings, and weekends at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Providence Park in Novi, as well as at our many other outpatient
medical centers. A few examples of assignment opportunities are working in the gift shop, escorting patients, assisting at the information desks, working in the emergency room and on patient care units, and helping with clerical duties in various departments. There are also many opportunities to become involved in the volunteer auxiliary organization, Our Lady of Providence League, by serving on committees, helping with fund-raising and assuming leadership positions.

What Is Required?
Becoming a Providence volunteer means being a partner with the Providence staff, working to achieve Providence's goals and mission of healing. Our volunteers are people who freely and responsibly give of their time and talents to help others - and are people who believe that VOLUNTEERS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

A volunteer is required to be a U.S. Citizen, or otherwise authorized to volunteer in the United States. Our adult program requires that you be a minimum of 18 years of age and out of high school. Our teen volunteer program is available to students in standing, age 15 and older. Also, all volunteers are required to attend a basic orientation in addition to on-the-job training. You will be interviewed to determine your interests so that we can match the skills you bring to the areas where help is needed. To easily identify you to our staff, patients, and visitors as being part of our volunteer program, we ask you to purchase and wear a regulation uniform while on duty.
