Shin Splints
This term refers to a syndrome consisting of pain along the inner tibial shaft.
The patient will describe a gradual increase in soreness and pain during
walking .
Therapy and rehabilitation consist of rest, ice, a course of anti-inflammatory
medications, heel cord and hamstring strengthening and dorsiflexion of the
foot. Shoes with proper flexibility and shock absorption should be employed
for sports and athletic pursuits to prevent recurrence.
