Providence Hospital is once again ranked as one the top 100 hospitals in the United States for heart care, according to an independent national study. Providence is the only hospital in southeast Michigan to receive this recognition six years in a row and the only center in Oakland County to be honored in 2006.

Indigestion

Indigestion is rarely a serious health problem, unless it is accompanied by other symptoms. A common problem, indigestion may be triggered by eating certain foods, drinking wine or carbonated drinks, eating too fast, or overeating. Some people may find that spicy foods, high-fiber foods, fatty foods, or too much caffeine can all aggravate this problem. Symptoms may be worsened by anxiety and depression.

Common causes of indigestion include the following

  • Overeating
  • Eating too fast
  • Significant caffeine intake
  • Eating fatty or greasy foods
  • Drinking too much alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Eating spicy foods
  • Emotional trauma or nervousness
  • Cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder)
  • Acute or chronic gastritis (inflammation of the stomach)
  • Acute or chronic pancreatits (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Duodenal ulcer
  • Gastric ulcer
  • Drugs, such as antibiotics, aspirin, and NSAIDs
