About Us

It is the mission of the St John Health Osteopathic Division, Department of Medical Education that students, interns and residents gain clinical exposure to a myriad of disease processes with increasing responsibility as they progress through residency training. Further, that housestaff members will be provided quality clinical education while delivering the highest quality of care to our patients.

The goal of the St. John Health Osteopathic Division internship is to provide interns with clinical training that will allow them to develop the ability to identify, evaluate and treat problems of medical, surgical and ob/gyn patients of all age groups in both the hospital and ambulatory setting. Recognizing that didactics are in important tool to accomplish this, we will also provide interns with an organized, systematic curriculum incorporating not only scientific data but psychosocial concepts, skills and methods that will enable interns to develop an open and objective foundation for life long learning.

Internships

St John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center, offers 20 intern positions, which comprise traditional internship as well as Medicine, General Surgery and OB/GYN track internship. Each internship successfully underwent re-accreditation in 2002, and are assigned as follows:

  • Traditional -- 6 positions
  • Internal Medicine Track -- 5 positions
  • General Surgery -- 2 positions
  • OB/GYN -- 5 positions
  • Oral Maxillofacial Surgery -- 1 position

In addition to excellent clinical didactics, interns enjoy a strong mentoring system by our residents. To apply for internship, applicants should submit a completed:

  • AOA online application or Residency Application on this site
  • Transcripts Dean’s letter Board scores (either COMPEX or USMLE)
  • Two letters of recommendation
