St. John Health is the largest hospital system within Ascension Health, the nation's largest nonprofit and largest Catholic health system. All Ascension Health hospitals promote Healthcare that is Safe:
- No injuries or deaths that could have been prevented. Studies show that most medical errors are "system" errors, not people errors. We continually review our processes and work to make our systems of care more efficient, to prevent mistakes.
- Collecting “best practices” and sharing them with others. We are standardizing our best processes and making them national programs.
- Tracking data across Ascension Health, using consistent reporting to help us improve the care we provide. We are giving patients usable information that will assist them in making their healthcare decisions.
2007 JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals for Hospitals
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations approved a set of national patient safety goals that JCAHO-accredited hospitals should implement. St. John Health hospitals are JCAHO-accredited and as such, have adopted the 2007 JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals and recommendations.
