Speech Therapy

NRS speech therapyThe Speech Pathologist works with individuals to help them regain communicative abilities, which were affected by brain injury (traumatic brain injury, stroke, etc.). Areas commonly addressed include, but are not limited to, cognition, language, speech, voice, swallowing, and pragmatic abilities. Retraining may be accomplished through individual, paired, and/or group sessions. Speech services are provided by certified Speech and Language Pathologists.

During treatment sessions, you may perform verbal, written, or computer exercises designed to improve the impaired skills. Treatment tasks may include learning to use compensatory aids and strategies, which are designed to help an individual plan, organize, or remember information. Tools used may include such items as: appointment book, communication book, electronic spell checker, memo board, wall calendar, timer, watch alarm, etc.

Home programs are provided to reinforce skills and strategies learned in therapy sessions. Involvement of family members is encouraged to maximize functional outcomes.

Utilizing a team approach, the Speech and Language Pathologist works with other involved disciplines to ensure your goals are met on an individual basis.
