Acoustic tumors are non-malignant fibrous growths, originating from the balance or hearing nerve, that do not spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body. The constitute six to ten percent of all brain tumors. Click here for more information about acoustic neuromas.

Seilesh C. Babu, MD

Dr. Babu is fellowship trained in Otology and Neurotology from the Michigan Ear Institute in Farmington Hills, MI. He completed his Otolaryngology Residency at Henry Ford Health System after receiving his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Dr. Babu has clinical interests in ear surgery, hearing loss and reconstruction, dizziness, cochlear implants, acoustic neuromas and skull base lesions, facial nerve weakness in kids and adults. Dr. Babu has several publications in these areas. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, American College of Surgeons, and associate member of the American Neurotology Society. He currently serves as a council member to the Michigan Otolaryngological Society.



Ryan J. Barrett, DO

Dr. Barrett subspecializes in surgical neuro-oncology. Dr. Barrett's training in surgical neuro-oncology has provided proficiency in the latest technologies involved in the treatment of oncologic conditions affecting the nervous system. Dr. Barrett is also proficient in treating general neurosurgical conditions involving both the brain and the spine, including an extensive experience in complex spine surgery. Dennis I. Bojrab, MD

Norman M. Burns, MD

Daniel P. Elskens, MD

Dr. Elskens is a board certified neurosurgeon and has special interests in back and neck pain, pinched nerves, ruptured disks, brain tumors and surgical stroke management. He is part of the Eastside Neurosurgery physician group and has been in practice since 1992. Devon A. Hoover, MD

He completed his medical training at Indiana University School of Medicine, and his residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Bruce H. Kole, MD

Michael J. LaRouere, MD

Dr. LaRouere is fellowship trained in otology, neurotology and skull base surgery. His special interests include chronic ear disease, dizziness and balance, acoustic tumors, facial nerve disorders, and breast cancer. Dr. LaRouere is currently the President of the Michigan Otolaryngological Society and the Section Chief of Neurotology at Providence Hospital. He is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery where he serves on the Board of Governors representing the ear, nose and throat physicians from the State of Michigan. He is also active in the American Neurological Society. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor at Wayne State University. Dr. LaRouere has received numerous honors and awards including being cited in the Best Doctors in the Midwest and in Michigan. He recently received the Honor Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, which acknowledged his many academic contributions to the field of otolaryngology. Dr. LaRouere has published numerous scientific articles on the ear and related topics. He is a frequent lecturer nationally and sits on the review panel for several journals in the field of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Current research interests include balance dysfunction, facial paralysis, chronic ear disease and tinnitus. Recently he developed tinnitus tapes which have been approved for use in combating ringing in the ears.



Vittorio M. Morreale, MD

Dr. Morreale is a board certified neurosurgeon with a special interest in complex spine disorders, brain and spinal tumors, Parkinson's disease, and cerebrovascular surgery. He was one of the first neurosurgeons in the state of Michigan trained to perform a surgical technique known as deep brain stimulation. This procedure is an option for some patients suffering from Parkinson's disease or other movement disorders. Dr. Morreale attended George Washington School of Medicine and completed his training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In 2004 and 2008, Dr. Morreale was named by his peers as one of the area's top neurological surgeons in Hour Detroit magazine's "Top Docs" survey.

Daniel R. Pieper, MD

A board certified neurosurgeon, Dr. Pieper is experienced in treating adult and pediatric patients with a broad range of neurological disorders. With expertise in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery, patients are treated with state of the art techniques including endovascular treatment of cerebral aneurysms and radiosurgery for the treatment of some tumors and brain vascular malformations. Dr. Pieper provides the neurosurgical expertise for the largest multi-disciplinary surgical group in Michigan specializing in acoustic tumors and craniofacial surgery. Dr. Pieper is a member fo the Michigan Head and Spine Institute (MHSI) of southeast Michigan. He is director of cerebrovascular and skull base surgery at MHSI. Eric W. Sargent, MD

Bruce M. Silverman, DO

Dr. Bruce Silverman is one of the co-founders of Associates in Neurology. Dr. Silverman focuses on Medical Neurology, Electrodiagnostics: EMG, EEG, Evoked potentials, Carotid Ultrasonography and Botox Therapy. Dr. Silverman received his medical degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, IA. He completed his Internship and training in Internal Medicine as well as his Residency in Neurology at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills. Dr. Silverman is the current acting chairman of the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. Richard S. Veyna, MD

Dr. Veyna is a board-eligible neurosurgeon who received a Bachelor of Science Degree at Baylor University, Waco, TX. He attended the University of Texas, School of Medicine at Houston, followed by a Neurosurgery Residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Veyna has a special interest in spinal disorders and instrumentation, minimally invasive surgery, surgical treatment of aneurysms, deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease, brachial plexus and peripheral nerve tumors. Dr Veyna established a leading regional deep brain stimulation program in Minnesota performing dozens of implants for Parkinson's Disease and Essential tremor disorder. Working with closely with neurologists and therapists, Dr Veyna was instrumental in creating on of the leading Deep Brain Stimulation programs in the Midwest.



John J. Zappia, MD

Dr. John J. Zappia is a Board-Certified Otolaryngologist/Head and Neck Surgeon. He recieved his medical degree from the University of Michigan. After general surgical internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, he completed an N.I.H. funded research fellowship at the Kresge Hearing Research Institute in Ann Arbor. Dr. Zappia completed his Otolaryngogology/Head and Neck Surgery training at the University of Michigan and went on to train further in Otology/Neurotology/Skull Base Surgery at the Michigan Ear Institute. Dr. Zappia practiced in the Chicago area with the Chicago Otology Group and with the depatment of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at Northwestern Medical Center. In 1997, he joined the Michigan Ear Institute. His basic research work has been on ototoxic effects of medications, cochlear nerve implant prototypes and the effects of cochlear implants on the human cochlea. Dr. Zappia's numerous publications have included many facets of otology/neurotology including intraoperative monitoring, audiometric testing, treatment of tinnitus, acoustic neuromas, intraoperative hearing preservation, chronic ear disease, and treatment of vertigo.
