Certified Stroke and Cerebrovascular Centers

“Our commitment to delivering the highest quality patient care and our ability within neurosciences to provide state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic intervention has made us a destination institution for stroke patients in Michigan and throughout the Midwest.”

Diane Radloff, President,
St John Hospital and Medical Center

In the event of a heart attack, time is muscle. In the event of a brain attack (or stroke), time is brain cells.

In the United States, stroke is the leading cause of disability in adults and the third leading cause of death. Prompt treatment can decrease the likelihood of a lasting disability and increase your chance for survival.

At St. John Health System's Certified Stroke Centers, you can rest assured that you will be promptly attended to and cared for by the nation's leading stroke specialists in a top-quality facility that isn't too far from home.

Our multidisciplinary stroke teams include cross-departmental members that provide a coordinated effort to ensure prompt evaluation of your stroke symptoms, diagnostic testing and appropriate treatment.

This improved efficiency and excellence in patient care allows the St. John Health System Certified Stroke Centers a time-sensitive opportunity to intervene and improve your neurologic outcome.

Certifications

In April 2006, Providence Hospital received accreditation as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center from the Joint Commission, an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 17,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. This certification is nationally recognized as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to high performance standards and quality care.

In September 2009, St. John Hospital and Medical Center was also certified by the Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.

These distinguished designations demonstrate St. John Health System's commitment to providing the very best in state-of-the-art diagnostic testing and therapeutic interventions if you experience stroke-like symptoms.

“Specialized imaging, called CT perfusion, allows our stroke team to quickly determine if there is brain tissue to be saved with additional treatment. This ability to look at the critically important part of the brain in a timely manner can become the difference between a patient's recovery or impairment, which is the reason our neurologists work closely with the emergency centers delivering immediate therapy to ensure the most favorable outcome."

Dr. Paul Cullis, Chief of Neurology
