Several St. John Health hospitals earn Governor’s Award again
Four St. John Health (SJH) hospitals have earned the prestigious Governor’s Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Hospital Setting, presented annually in partnership with the Michigan Peer Review Organization (MPRO), Michigan’s Quality Improvement Organization. Awards are divided into various categories to focus on their improvements. Winners include:
- Providence Hospital: Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP)
- St. John Hospital and Medical Center: SCIP
- St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center: SCIP
- St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Oakland Center: Appropriate Care Measure and SCIP
- St. John River District Hospital: SCIP
Governor's Award of Excellence - Ambulatory Care
Governor’s Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Ambulatory Care Setting recognizes primary care physician offices statewide that are actively engaged in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives to enhance patient care. Physician offices achieved this honor by focusing their quality improvement efforts in the areas of preventive care and chronic disease management during 2007. Clinical topics included in the award criteria have been designated as national health care priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). These topics include Preventive Care, Diabetes Mellitus, Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Failure, and Cancer Screening.

St. John Health named to AARP’s best employer list
AARP, the nation’s largest association of retired people, has recognized St. John Health (SJH) on its yearly list: AARP Best Employers For Workers Over 50. The annual recognition program acknowledges companies and organizations whose best practices and policies for addressing aging workforce issues are roadmaps for the workplaces of tomorrow. Currently 33 percent of the SJH workforce is over age 50.
St. John Health named 101 Best and Brightest workplaces again
For the second year in a row, St. John Health (SJH) has been named one of “Metro Detroit’s “101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For” by the Michigan Business and Professional Association (MBPA) and the National Association for Business Resources. SJH was among four health care systems to be recognized this year.
St. John Home Care Receives 2006 Michigan Award of Excellence
For the second consecutive year St. John Home Care (SJHC) received the Michigan Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Home Health Setting from the Michigan Peer Review Organization (MPRO). To receive this award home health agencies in Michigan voluntarily participate in the development, refinement and sharing of clinical best practices for improving the care of patients in the home setting.
St. John Health (SJH) has been honored with a 2007 Insight Award
from Thomson Healthcare. The award recognizes health systems that have achieved extraordinary improvement in health care delivery through the use of specific database products and services. Frank Veltri, Director, SJH Strategic Planning, accepted the award on behalf of SJH at the 2007 Thomason Healthcare Insight Conference in Las Vegas on May 9.
Community Health nurse honored as “Nurse of the Year”
The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press have named Lenora Foster, RN, a St. John Health (SJH) school-based health center nurse, as Registered Nurse of the Year. Lenora has been with Community Health for eight years and splits her time between two Detroit schools – Cornerstone Elementary and Middle School, and Howe Elementary.
St. John Health receives Corporate ONE award (again!)
For the second year in a row, St. John Health (SJH) was recognized with the Corporate ONE Award from the Michigan Minority Business Development Council (MMBDC), the largest minority business development organization in the U. S.
Providence Named One Of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals
Providence Hospital has been recognized for excellence on the prestigious U.S.News & World Report’s annual "Best Hospitals" list. Providence is ranked 49th in the category of Neurology & Neurosurgery by the magazine. The rankings will be published in the magazine’s July 10, 2006 issue. This is the 17th year that U.S News & World Reports has compiled the annual rankings of America’s Best Hospitals.
St. John Hospital and Medical Center Recognized as One of Nation’s Top 100 Hospitals
St. John Hospital and Medical Center (SJH&MC) was recognized as one of the nation’s Top 100 Major Teaching Hospitals. The award recognizes hospitals that achieve or exceed national benchmark scores for hospital-wide performance. This is award is in a new category for SJH&MC; the hospital has received the Solucient Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital Award four times since 1999.
St. John Oakland Hospital named one of nation’s improvement leaders
For the third consecutive year, St. John Oakland Hospital has been named among the nation’s 100 Top Performance Improvement Leaders. The honor comes from Solucient, a leading provider of strategic business and clinical information for the health care industry.
Providence again named among nation’s top heart hospitals
For the fifth year in a row, Providence Hospital is ranked as one the top 100 hospitals in the United States for heart care, according to an independent national study.
Brighton Hospital Receives National Honor
Brighton Hospital, a member of St. John Health, has been honored nationally for being a premier facility for those who have dedicated themselves to helping people overcome addiction.
SJH wins state grant for nursing education programs
A great team effort among St. John Health (SJH)/Providence leadership and support staff has resulted in SJH being named the recipient of a $1.7 million grant from the State of Michigan.
River District’s inpatient care rated #1 in southeast Michigan (Again!)
Last month, 67.7% of St. John river District hospitals (SJRDH) discharged patients ranked their overall experience a “5” or “Very Good” score (the best score possible) on the Press Ganey Customer Satisfaction survey.
River District receives American Cancer Society awards
Congratulations to St. John River District Hospital (SJRDH) for earning two awards from the American Cancer Society (ACS) in recognition of achieving 10 criteria toward fighting cancer through education and health screenings.
St. John Oakland Hospital wins congestive heart failure project award
St. John Oakland Hospital has received an award for participation in the Michigan Heart Failure Discharge Documentation Initiative in collaboration with Michigan Peer Review Organization. SJOH was one of many hospitals in the state that participated in this initiative.
River District receives VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence
St. John River District Hospital (SJRDH) received the 2005 Leadership Award for clinical excellence for the treatment of congestive heart failure from the VHA (Voluntary Hospitals of America), a nationwide network of community-owned health care systems and physicians. SJRDH is one of only 92 VHA members to receive the award.
