Visiting Guidelines
We understand that visits from family and friends are a vital part of a patient’s health care. Our goal is to help your friend or loved one recover as soon as possible. You can help by being a considerate visitor. We do request that visitors observe the following guidelines:
- Observe patient visiting hours
- Observe the hospital’s “No Smoking” policy
- Leave the patient’s room when care is rendered
- Respect the privacy of other patient’s by speaking softy
- Children are welcome, but please be considerate of others. Children should not be allowed to run around or come to visit if they have a cold or infection.
- If there are more than two visitors, please use the patient dining room or the lobby for your visit
Visiting Hours
General visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visitors are not allowed in the hospital before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m. without prior authorization from the nursing staff. Visitors are welcome at other hours, but it is important to let the nurses know.
REAL Convenience Concierge Service
St. John Health offers a personalized errand and concierge service to patients and their families, employees, medical staff and volunteers. The service, called REAL Convenience, can be used for a vast array of daily errands, including dry cleaning, car care, postal services and much more. Dining for Our Visitors
Cafeteria hours are:
- Breakfast: 8:30 to 9:45 a.m.
- Lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Dinner: 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Vending machines are available 24 hours a day and are located just inside of the cafeteria in the vending room
Parking
Please feel free to park in any one of the three parking lots provided by St. John North Shores Hospital. The parking lots are located at the main driveway as you enter the building area, behind the building near the emergency entrance and around the back of the professional office building attached to the emergency room. St. John North Shores Hospital also provides 17 van accessible handicap parking spots. All parking is free.
Amenities
A free newspaper is delivered daily to patients.
Gift Shop
The Gift Shop is located in the main lobby of the hospital. The Gift Shop is usually opened from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Because volunteers staff the Gift Shop, hours of operation tend to vary. We are always looking for new volunteers to extend our hours of operation.
Proceeds from the Gift Shop are used to help support programs and services at St. John North Shores Hospital.
Chapel
Our Meditation Room is located on the second floor at the end of the 240 hallway. It is open 24 hours a day.
Lost & Found
The Environmental Services Department provides a lost and found service at St. John North Shores Hospital. Please contact them if you have lost or misplaced an item or if you have recovered an item. The Environmental Services personnel can be reached at 586-466-5344.
Smoking Policy
No Smoking is permitted inside of St. John North Shores Hospital. A smoking shelter is provided outside the North entrance of the hallway that connects the Emergency Room to the Professional Office Building. This is the only area smoking is permitted until June 30th. Beginning July 1, 2007, this facility will be a tobacco-free environment.
Wireless Internet Access
Complimentary wireless internet access is available to visitors who bring a personal laptop computer. To use the service, simply log onto your wireless-enabled computer and scan for wireless networks. Then click on “St. John Internet.” After reviewing and accepting the terms of use on the connection screen, you’ll be able to browse the Internet.
