Two St. John Health hospitals, Providence Hospital and St. John Hospital and Medical Center, are ranked as a top 100 hospital in the United States for heart care, according to an independent national study.

Providence and SJH&MC are recognized by the Thomson (formally Solucient) 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Hospitals® Benchmarks for Success study, which identifies those hospitals that have achieved excellence in care, efficiency of operations and sustainability of cardiovascular performance. The study focused on hospitals that treat high volumes of heart attack patients and perform large numbers of specific heart-related procedures such as bypass grafts and angioplasties. They are two of only 30 teaching hospitals with cardiovascular residency programs listed. Providence is the only hospital in southeast Michigan to receive this recognition seven years in a row.

In its ninth year, the Thomson 100 Top Hospitals®: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success study identifies hospitals that are setting benchmark levels of performance for cardiovascular services throughout the nation. The study found that top-performing facilities consistently outperform their peers, especially in terms of mortality and complication rates.   Thomson, based in Evanston, Ill., provides strategic information to the healthcare industry. More information about the results of this study is available at www.100tophospitals.com.

Providence Hospital and SJH&MC are part of the St. John Health Heart Care Network, the leading provider of heart care in Michigan. Both are recognized as a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Centers of Cardiac Excellence.
