Providence Pain ManagementA Special Approach to Managing Chronic PainChronic pain is often defined as pain lasting longer than three months or continuing long after the original injury occurs, despite the normal healing process. If you suffer from chronic pain, you know it can literally take over almost every aspect of your life. Everyday stresses can become magnified. Chronic pain can produce feelings of anger, sadness, hopelessness and despair. It disrupts sleep, alters one's personality and interferes with work and relationships. It can even have a profound effect on other family members. Treating, controlling and managing chronic pain is one of the main concerns of modern medicine, so we have made it our special concern at the Providence Pain Management Center. The Center is located in the Providence Pavilion, adjacent to Providence Hospital's Southfield campus. A team of skilled professionals evaluates your problem and designs a program that treats both the physical and emotional aspects of pain. A Team of Experts Work to Treat Your Pain
An algologist - an anesthesiologist with specialty training in pain management - will work with you in developing a treatment plan to meet your individual needs. The anesthesiologist/algologist is assisted by a specially trained nursing staff, plus the expertise provided by professionals in psychology, physical and occupational therapy and social work. We Treat Many Chronic Pain Problems:
Most treatments are fairly simple procedures that can be performed on an outpatient basis, allowing you to return home the same day. Types of standard treatments include: nerve blocks, trigger point injections, physical therapy assessment/recommendations, occupational therapy/work hardening referrals, transcutaneous nerve stimulator and a number of psychological services. More Advanced Treatments Include:
A Program Just for Cancer PatientsPain is a concern for many cancer patients and their families. Providence Hospital Pain Management Center has a program for cancer patients using some of the most advanced methods of pain management available. Our goal is to improve the quality of the patient’s life while avoiding some of the side effects of medications. Total pain management cannot be undertaken by an individual alone, but only by individuals working together as a team. This team approach allows the patient to receive smaller, controlled doses of medication which result in less grogginess and a greater responsiveness to family members and daily activities. When You Visit the Pain Management Center
Following registration, you'll be greeted by a nurse and escorted to the preparation area. Your medical history will be reviewed, and preparations for your procedure will be made. You will then be taken to the treatment room for the procedure your doctor has prescribed. It will take approximately 15-20 minutes to perform and will be done under local anesthesia. After the procedure, you’ll be taken to the recovery room where you'll be monitored carefully by our staff. The length of stay depends on the procedure, but the minimum is one hour. You’ll receive additional instructions before you are discharged. Remember you must make arrangements to have someone take you home. FeesCharges include the use of the Center facilities and all supplies, drugs and materials used during your stay. Physical therapy fees will be charged separately. If you do not have medical insurance, a deposit will be required when you register. The anesthesiologist/algologist will bill you separately for your consultation visit, treatment and follow-up visits. For More Information
