Providence Cancer Institute Service Overview - Multidisciplinary Treatment PlanningFor many patients, treatment will be planned by a group of Providence specialists that includes surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, nurses, and others from areas like plastic surgery and pulmonology if necessary. These Multidisciplinary Working Groups are designed to ensure that treatment plans are of the highest quality and effectiveness. Since diagnosis and treatment planning are streamlined, the time a patient typically might spend in multiple appointments is greatly reduced. Multidisciplinary Working Groups exist at Providence for lung/esophagus cancer, breast cancer, genito-urinary cancer, leukemia and lymphoma, head and neck cancers with others planned. For head and neck cancers, Ian Jackson, MD, an internationally renowned plastic surgeon specializing in craniofacial surgery, fulfills all plastic surgery needs. |
