The Cardiology trainee will have gained experience with the placement of temporary pacing wires in 30 patients, pericardiocentesis in 10-15 patients, endomyocardial biopsy in 10-20 patients, and intra-aortic balloon counter pulsation device insertion in 20-30 patients.

The Cardiology trainee will have obtained proficiency in arterial and venous access.

The Cardiology trainee will have obtained proficiency in the identification and limitation of diagnostic cardiac, peripheral vascular catheterization, the interpretation of hemodynamic, cineventriculographic, coronary and peripheral arteriographic data and develope skill in the application of these data to the management of revascularization procedures.

The Cardiology trainee will have prepared, submitted, and presented several abstracts at region and national meetings and prepared and submitted several manuscripts for peer review.

The Cardiology trainee will have obtained proficinncy in the performance of percutaneous revascularization procedures, including: coronary balloon angioplasty, and cutting balloon angioplasty, atherectomy, stent placement, intra-coronary ultrasound, Doppler flow wire measurements and intravascular brachytherapy.  This will be accomplished through the performance of at least 400-450 procedures with 250-300 of these procedures as primary operator.  This will include a minimum of 25-50 atherectomies, 200 coronary stent placements, 25-30 intra-coronary ultrasound studies, 10-20 Doppler flow wire measurements, 20-30 brachytherapy procedures.
