The Podiatric Resident Training Program at Providence HospitalFirst Year Positions: Two The three year Podiatric residency (PSR-36) was granted full approval by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education of the American Podiatric Medical Association in 2004. Residents are selected on the basis of their previous achievements in Podiatry College, letters of recommendation, college evaluations and a personal interview held annually during the CRIP weekend Graduates of the program receive a comprehensive general medical and surgical experience which includes various rotations working alongside other hospital residents. During the program residents rotate through the Departments of Medical Records, Radiology, Lab and Pathology, Emergency Medicine, Behavioral Medicine, Anesthesia, General Surgery, Neurology and Internal Medicine Family Practice, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Rheumatology, Dermatology, Orthopedic Surgery, and Sports Medicine. The ongoing rotation in Podiatric Surgery provides broad and extensive experience in forefoot, mid-foot and rear-foot and ankle reconstructive surgical techniques and procedures. The program offers substantial exposure to techniques in Laser technology and the recently popularized Orthotrypsy technology. The residents are also responsible to provide publishable material in podiatric research and other subjects of relevant podiatric interest during the two-year program. Residents also attend the hospitals general medical education lectures applicable to podiatry, the monthly Podiatry Journal Club sessions, the podiatric lecture series, an ongoing internet lecture program, an array of guest speakers and additional educational opportunities at various local professional meetings. An excellent opportunity for an Externship program of one month duration is available to senior students enrolled in an accredited College of Podiatric Medicine.
