Prenatal Testing

Your Providence physician may suggest certain tests before your baby is born. Among these prenatal (or antenatal) tests are:

• Ultrasound to determine fetal size, placental location, the presence of multiple births and other factors
• Amniocentesis to determine fetal maturity and certain genetic disorders
• Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) used in early pregnancy to detect the possibility of certain genetic disorders
• Biophysical profile testing (BPP) to further evaluate fetal well-being
• Umbilical artery doppler testing for special high-risk situations
