Quality Improvement

Quality checklistMore and more hospitals are trying to improve the quality of their care. One way is to keep track of patient outcomes for certain procedures. Another way is to keep track of patient injuries and infections that occur in the hospital. For more information, see our Patient Safety page.

St. John Health improvement process uses Malcolm Baldrige, Continuous Quality Improvement, PDSA, Six Sigma and Lean. All associates, departments and care teams are prepared to use this approach to make improvement. Noted clinical improvements are reduced hospital-acquired infections, decreased infections in the ICUs, decreased falls, shorter length of time in the hospital and improved compliance with the evidence based care for congestive heart failure, stroke and pneumonia patients. Operational improvements have created decreased wait time in the emergency room, increased capacity on high volume units, and decreased waste.

At St. John Health we have a passion for healing and are committed to a patient care experience that supports care across the continuum. Part of that commitment is the monitoring of Patient Satisfaction and rapidly addressing issues. Through our service excellence program and our service excellence advisors we use regular department meetings to work on improving care. Notable improvements are: navigation boards in every room to improve communication with team and families, providing food anytime for patients and quicker response to patient call lights.
